Teaser Trailer 1 (The Lion King)

The first teaser trailer that I am going to analyse is the trailer for the soon to be released 'Lion King'.

There are six generic conventions of teaser trailers and this trailer follows five of the six.

  1. Firstly, dialogue is used in the first half of the trailer to build suspense and gives an ominous atmosphere as well as building excitement.
  2. Dramatic camera angles are also used to reveal certain characters and locations. In the first half of the trailer, there is slow cutting with fades to black to build suspense with every shot being of a different animal or different location.
  3. The music is also carefully chosen to give the desired effect. As this is a modernised remake of a classic movie, the music is already well-known so using this creates a sense of nostalgia for the audience and reminds many people of their childhood. People who grew up watching the original movie will want to go and see this new version so therefore generates a large audience.
  4. The title of the film is near the end followed by the main cast members and then one last scene to end the trailer and then having the billing as the last screen.
  5. This trailer ends with a climax and shows one character who is the one that has been speaking doing the voiceover throughout the trailer and is revealed at the end so leave the audience in suspense.
