Conventions of Teaser Trailers

There are a number of generic conventions of teaser trailers.

Here is a list of all of the conventions that one can expect when watching a teaser trailer.
  • Voiceovers telling the story of the film and providing crucial information to the audience
  • Dialogue is used add excitement and build suspense
  • Dramatic camera angles are used in order to reveal certain characters and locations
  • Carefully chosen music in order to create the right atmosphere
  • The title of the film is usually placed at the end or near the end of the trailer sometimes with one last short clip after the title has appeared on screen
  • A trailer always ends with a climax in order to tease the audience

Teaser trailers also consist of three main parts:
Opening
  • Establishing the setting and revealing the characters

Build-up
  • Character's relationships established

Problem
  • Certain obstacle is shown for the characters to overcome throughout the film
  • The structure of a film trailer is hugely important as you want to keep the audience intrigued and wondering what will happen next.

Voiceovers
  • Voiceovers also play a large part in film trailers
  • They help the audience gain a further understanding in what is happening throughout the trailer whilst also conveying the general theme and set the tone for the upcoming film
